With Veltroni for what he did for the Democratic Party. The resignations do him honor: it is a measure of consistency and fairness.
Now more than ever, the PD must listen to the voters asking for radical innovations. It 'time for new people and democratic neighbors to the voters, who are not logical expression of old party, on a personal level credible, competent, with a clear vision of the future they want to propose.
An attitude of mere prudence at this point would be dangerous for the PD.
We say "No" to the old politics, 'yes' to democratic participation. We suggest that after Veltroni's resignation, the more urgent decisions are taken by the National Constituent Assembly to be merged later this month. The party must choose a "regent" but with a breathing space, not "under trauma." It should pave the way for real primaries for the selection of a new Secretary, and the election of a new Assembly, elected by open primary, rather than drive along the old way of a Congress that let out voters and ordinary citizens from choices that matter.
